Sometimes in life we need to take a step backwards to go forward. Over time we realise and appreciate the backward step. This can only be true if we understand the reasons for the backward step and correct them. This will put you in good stead and make you stronger for the remainder of the journey. We lost badly last week because we are all still learning and growing as men, players and God’s children. The good thing about life is that it always presents opportunities for us to demonstrate our lessons from previous experiences. We all spoke well after the match and this match is our opportunity to show we have grown as a team.
We were a bit naive in the way we implemented our play. I can't fault our efforts but we need to be cleverer. Clever in how we relate to the ref and the basic things (defend, transition, attack).
Two major things that are frustrating me are
(1) It seems we concede every time a ball is floated into our (crowded box) for example a corner kick. Standing by a player and not jumping with him when he attacks the play is not defending. You might as well not be there.
(2) Conversely when we have a chance to float the ball into our opponent’s penalty box everybody is crowding around the ball to play it and we barely have 2 players in the box! How can we score? What is even more annoying is that eventually after the struggle of who to kick it, the ball ends up as a bad ball (most of the time).
We are still 3rd in the table with a chance to close on the top 2 teams with our game in hand. This is our challenge. Like I have always said, the challenges of this league will reveal what we are made of.
